DUBLIN. THE BUTTON FACTORY FRIDAY 30TH JULY 2010

This was - with no doubt - the event of the year for all electroheads on our small island! Thank you, Ministry of Agröculture - Agro Fi, for this memorable event Friday night! Hurting necks & knees, bones, aching muscles, hangover and headache were hopefully the only damage after the gigs than the guys - who are planning to make monsters in August - came to destroy. :)

The CorniCombiCoach from Belfast...
Lesley: Ok now here's the fun part. I'm sure you can picture your usual CombiChrist fan in your mind? Yeah well - times that by about 50 and then imagine them squeezed into a coach from Belfast to Dublin with one 2 ft square toilet down 6 tiny treacherous stairs. The platforms were gonna be life-threatening - and that was just the blokes! I know by the comments on Facebook that the boys had been agonising over their outfits for weeks. And lovely they all looked too in their beautifully applied make up and nail polish. (In fact I had to watch one or two to see of they went into the M or F toilets at the gig). We were adorned in an abundance of PVC, rubber, lycra, netting, bondage trousers, crazy hair dos and of course the obligatory New Rocks or DMs. Yup that was us haring down the motorway with Industrial/EBM blasting out. Dancing, singing, laughing, causing general mayhem and eating Haribo sweeties.

ZeroPointZero

Dani  A band on stage on time. Wow. I didn't expect this... All in all: it was a delight to watch them. ZeroPointZero really, really rocked. Respect!!! A few words to the audience who was already there: please move your asses infront of the stage next time, not only for the main gigs also for the support band(s)! Thank you ;)

Setlist: DeathRockSuicide | Stitches | Electric Messiah (new one) | 20th Century Dog (Cover of 20thCenturyBoy/BlueMonday/Wanna Be your dog) | Blister | V69 | Milkteeth

Rabia Sorda

Lesley: We were late and arrived about halfway through Rabia Sorbas set which was a bit of a bummer but they were brilliant and I really liked all their songs. Thankfully I was there to hear "Out of Control" which I have had stuck in my head for the last couple of days.

Dani:  Rabia Sorda put in a good performance in front of the slowly growing crowd. To be honest, I've expected a bit more, the album "Noisy Diary" is one of my favourites. I'm not sure why the performance didn't infect me with excitement. Maybe it was due to the fact that there was almost no light during the whole Rabia Sorda show and you just could guess what whirlwind Erk Aicrag was doing on stage - not see...who knows... I don't know. But all in all a respectable gig!

CombiChrist

Dani:  CombiChrist were a blast. The band seems to be at their peak of their career. The whole stage setting was fantastic. Fronter Andy...energetic...a demon on stage! Joe and Trevor...the living devil on drums, Z-Marr a hell of men in the middle! I was impressed! I have been at a few CombiChrist shows but this one was far and away the best! Watching the crowd showed that really everybody enjoyed the concert!

Lesley: Well what can I say apart from I wish the film "Groundhog day" was real. I want CombiChrist to play every night for the rest of my life! Actually if I won the Euromillions I'd just buy them and have them play in my living room every night. I went straight over to the sound booth and waved at Choo then rushed off to treat myself to a CombiChrist hoodie and get my daughter a tshirt. I stood right at the front at the side so I had the perfect unblocked view of the stage (in fact I didn't even have a security barrier in front of me - and yes, I did have to restrain myself a couple of times.) I was equipped with Joey's green, fluffy unicorn in one hand and a yellow, rubber, flashing, bug-eyed, thingie in the other. Can I please just say on behalf of all the ladies: "Andy omg you looked absolutely gorgeous!" When he walked out and stood about 4 ft in front of me with his hair back to blond, not too extreme, and wearing that outfit I was just totally mesmerised. The last time I saw CombiChrist was in Manchester MEN and it was a totally different experience cos it was just a short set. Then I tended to watch Joey cos I love his drumming. But last night I found I had to actually drag my eyes away from Andy and make myself look at Joey, Trevor and Z-Marr cos I love them all and didn't want to miss any what they were doing. I don't think you often find a band where every member is as equally talented as the others, but in CombiChrist you do. They are all spectacular and unique in their own way. No wonder Joey is called "Roboarms" The speed he demolishes those drums, toms and cymbals, while twirling and throwing his sticks is breathtaking. Then there's Trevor - yup more drums, but completely different. Standing on the stool relentlously pounding the life out them and trying to kill the cymbals. And Z-Marr on the keyboards - probably not the easiest task in the world to make them interesting but he sure does. Throwing shapes while flinging his dreads. (Oh and by the way Trev and Z-Marr your topless torsos were appreciated by the ladies and probably coveted by most of the males in the audience lol) Back to Andy - he was absolutely on form. He had us all under his spell, stalking the stage and looking like he was loving every minute. That's the great thing about small venues we're all close and all feel part of the show. Andy soaked me, Joey soaked me and I loved it. I waved my unicorn and glow-worm in the air, danced, pogoed, sang, screamed and sweated about 5 pints. At one point I got out my Joey drumsticks, waved them about and got then confiscated by a security guard! I thought I was going to have to fight him to the death to get them back. Other people tried to steal them of him, including the guy who clears up after Joey but thankfully he kept a firm grip and I got them back.

I was really surprised when they didn't trash the stage - cos we've all come to expect that of CombiChrist haven't we? and I asked Joey why they didn't trash the stage - it's awesome... "Because you expected it"
