Dennis Ostermann (In Strict Confidence)

Please tell us a little bit about yourself...
Young dynamic man in his best years from Germany looking for fans for his band. See www.instrictconfidence.com for further information. HaHa. :D
How did you get into music?
We come from the Odenwald mountains, a very rural area near Frankfurt. Sharing the same preference for electronic music we inevitably collided and started experimenting with instruments and sound effects. This got better until 1996 when we could eventually launch a CD for the first time.
Can you remember your very first record that you bought? Do you still have it?
That was Alpaville’s "Forever Young". I still call it my own.
Let’s talk about "In Strict Confidence"... Can you tell us more about the band, its origins, the members, and the past albums, please?
I cannot give you the real "day of foundation". We started in the early nineties, gained our first experiences, and then, step by step, the character of the songs and our band became apparent. In 1994, we made the first records on tape that we sold through mail order. Thus we found the interest of labels that wanted to sign us on. Then our debut album "Crygenix" came out in '96. However, since 2001 we actually pull the strings by running our own new label "Minuswelt Musikfabrik". Since then, there were seven records and many more single and special releases.
The first "In Strict Confidence" concert was in what place? How was it? What would you change if you could do it again?
The first show was in the city of Aschaffenburg, in 1993. I have only vague memories. We probably thought it was great, but, objectively viewed, it was certainly rather bad :) Anyway, you have to start someday and somehow, and we have learned from experience.
What do you prefer personally? Playing small stages or rather big festivals?
Can’t really decide. Both have their own place and charm.
By what criteria do you pick the songs for your live performances?
One part is what the audience likes to hear, and the other part is what we want to present.
What do you do in the last half hour before a gig?
I am all focused and just hoping that everything will work out. I go to the bathroom and then up on stage.
This year you released the album "La Parade Monstrueuse". Now, after the publishing of an album – do you come up with new ideas right away, or do you feel the need to back away from everything?
Working over the last months took a lot of effort. You need some space then and I refrained from making music. However, you can’t just relax and rest because there are many things facing you like interviews :) and concerts and so on.
How is a "In Strict Confidence" song being produced?
It starts with jamming through sounds till you find something. It can be a melody, a sequence or just an atmosphere that you can build upon.
What is your inspiration?
Almost everything. I soak up the world and all stimulations, whether good or bad.
How important is being close to the fans for the band?
It’s really great to get feedback. That got so much easier through Myspace and Facebook during the last years. We use it as motivation but we don’t want to be swayed by it.
What’s your opinion on Facebook, Myspace, Youtube etc?
It’s a great opportunity for bands to introduce themselves and also to see the fans. But you don’t want to exchange the real life with the virtual world.
Is there something you have always wanted to do but have not yet done?
Hui, that’s gettin tough. I had childhood dreams like swimming with dolphins and swimming in the Dead Sea. And I was able to make these two come true. But I haven’t stopped dreaming in life.
If you could slip into a role of a historical figure of your choice for just one day - which one would it be?
There would be many. Neil Armstrong when he stepped onto the moon for the first time. Certainly J.F.K having one day with Marilyn Monroe. Jesus being crucified rather not.
Three topics that everybody is talking about these days... what comes in your mind and what's your opinion?
The Eurovision Song Contest:
The show is too lengthy for me and hardly one act really speaks to me. I am happy though that Lena won for Germany.
The oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico:
It is really bad, but it opens the eyes of the people. Hopefully, appropriate conclusions will be drawn from it.
The football worldcup:
Even though national league football is not interesting to me, I get sort of carried away by international championships.
What can I do to make "In Strict Confidence" come to Ireland?
We simply need a promoter and a club in Ireland. Somebody call our concert agency and hire us! Just give me an hour to pack my suitcase.
Your closing words to our readers, please...
Stay sexy.
