When received the new MOON.74 album to review, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Turns out I was pleasantly surprised! Upon first glance at the cover, I was expecting something much heavier and almost offensive to the senses. This album is nothing of the sort. With smooth transcendent vocals, the sound of MOON.74 resembles a cross between the likes of 'Depeche Mode' and 'Jesus on Exstasy'. I find myself experiencing the same sensations as 'Free Love' or 'Alone'. On another note, the actual production quality of the record is flawless. Rest assured, I took time to nit pick through the various tracks, but every sound is in its rightful place. My one and only gripe with this album is that in certain areas, the sound can be a touch repetitive, but the songs are strong enough to smooth over this minor crack. "Strange Convention" was the song I found really weird in a good way. I love the structure of the lyrics, the way they lift with the melody then shift downwards, still fitting with the music, and while the song is quite smooth, theres a slight underlying sinister edge. The song comes across as a downward spiral in a relationship where the two have kept each other at arms length and that to a certain extent it's falling apart; where thoughts are lost and never spoken, and as a result the distance is growing between them.
