Andrew Jackson is a new project born from the adventurous mind of Canadian, J Andrew, a Toronto born musician. According to the press release some of the songs on Feral Familiar were written in a cabin surrounded by the frozen barrenness of Georgian Bay. During those few weeks of solitude he conceived “Eugene Nixon,” “Enough Blood To Keep 'Em Coming”, “Another Day Of Misery” and “Big Baby” as the core of the album.

On first listening you are struck with the realization; this is Modern Day Retro for the disenfranchised generation.

To emphasise this. ” Another Day of Misery “(brought to me, by the powers that be) begins as an introspective ballad only to be washed over with a dirty Alabama swamp riff. This is an instant crowd pleaser and one of the stand-out tracks from Feral Familiar. On bridge track “March the Equinox” the vocals resemble Matt Bellamy singing with the spirit of Bowie and Bolan infused over and edgy guitar akin to The White Stripes. Then imagine The Cult’s Ian Astbury fronting the Rolling Stones instead of The Doors and you have the essence of “Eugene Nixon”. Andrew personifies cool on this album. Check out the video for “Enough Blood...” Filmed on a zombie walk day. It shows that not only is he in touch with modern youth culture. He is a voice of modern youth.

Wearing so many influences on his sleeves may have proven too difficult for a mere mortal but Andrew has handled the weight of all the aforementioned peers’ legacies with consummate ease. In the process this trio have delivered a debut jammed with tracks that work together demanding revolt and reaction from the listener.

Feral Familiar from Andrew Jackson proves that all great Rock is Classic.
