Blutengel - "Reich Mir Die Hand"

Label: Out Of Line Records / Release date: 24.01.2011

Butengel are seeming more cool then they should be. The new song single is, according to the press release, supposed to be about some “sensually fantastic vampire romance”, which is a bad idea even before the Twilight books became big. A vampire is the only thing people are willing to date even though they could be described as a parasite of a lover at best and an abusive rapist at worst. Plus if a vampire did exist, then they’d be more likely to be ugly 1922 Nosferatu creatures then those sexy things made popular in modern times. And let’s not get into the Necrophilia thing either.

“Reich Mir Die Hand” is one made for the dancefloor, seemingly not suited for romance except for that of the clubs, with the synths too open and big for intimacy and the German vocals (As much as I love German vocals) more in line with BDSM then old-fashioned romance. But it does have a good beat to move to, so it’s hard to stay mad at it for too long.

The Remix by Turnstyle & Fil Groth emphasises the keyboard much much more and add a sense of grandiose to the original as well as innovation. This is the kind of thing I’d like to see more of from artists. Shows they’re thinking. This is the kind of thing I could easily see myself dancing to at a club, and I’m not much of a fan of the cyber thing.

The Fire-Eater Remix is seeming less intense then the unmixed version, but it’s only toying with the listener as come the chorus, it hits hard and sharp and expects you to keep your composure like a girlfriend you think is going beyond “just teasing”. Still a nice track, even though it does come off as much more 90’s dance then it should.

“Insomnia” switches from German lyrics to English (Boo!) and comes up with another dancefloor filler that feels like it’s trying a bit hard to be like the title track when it should seek it’s on voice. Perhaps Blutengel and dance fans might get something from it, but it’s not doing much for me.

Overall, a competent single, very good remixes a mediocre B-side. Net worth: You get what you pay for.
