The new, and second-album from this Dublin-duo is one that follows on from their 2005 debut Desolate Shores, all though, it’s also one that follows a different musical path where the band itself have somewhat returned to the sound of their early-days, and that of an Electronic Pop style that mirrors acts like Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys with this twelve-track album which includes the two-singles released last-year - If I Was A Pet Shop Boy & Subhuman, to their recently released single Electric!. The best of what’s here ranges from If I Was A Pet Shop Boy, which features all the right ingredients for the perfect Synth Pop single, and one that moves along at a steady and even pace, building well to a strong chorus, the pure-Erasure style on the albums most up-tempo track Going Going Gone, for me, a potential single, but, maybe one that’s just to obvious, the bubbly and mid-paced I Could Have Done Without This moves along nicely, again its builds well to its chorus making it another potential single, the mid-paced Erasure style of Fortune Lost bounces along nicely with a melancholy feel that combines well with a strong vocal delivery that very-much adds to the track itself, all though, I felt that the track was just that bit too long, and at seven-minutes, the same could be easily said of the mid-paced Murder On The Mind, a track with different styles of vocals that add greatly to the track itself. Further tracks of note include the somewhat similar style and pace of Subhuman, and the album’s title-track, while there is a strong rigid mid-paced edge to Independent, clocking-in at just over eight-minutes long. Beyond this, there is a steady mid-paced similarity to Spin The Disc and Out Of Sight (Out Of Mind), the strong piano-led mid-paced ballad Through The Years which allows front-man Mark Power to showcase his excellent vocals, likewise with the simplistic ballad Beautiful Thing with its dark string-laden overtone on what is a strong and consistent album with a varied track selection, and one that is highly reommended.
