FUTURE PERFECT - "DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS"

Release date: 16.08.2010 / FP RECORDINGS

9 out of 10

Self-released debut-album for this Welsh-based British-duo, and one that features eleven-tracks that includes their debut-single Hunter along with the digital-single Discover Me, released to raise awareness of, and to above all support the eating disorders charity BEAT. The band itself produce a strong, and solid style of Electronic Pop that perfectly combines with the exceptional, and soulful vocals of one Rebecca Morgan who displays an impressive dept and range through out the album, with no better example of these powerful vocals being displayed on some of the more outstanding tracks here that include the afore-mentioned Discover Me with its strong, and solid mid-paced edge, its a track that gradually builds itself up, while the somewhat similar, but, at that, with a more ballad-like feel is Confessions which equally builds itself into another strong, powerful track with sharp synths and a chorus to match, as the slow to mid-paced Fragile features a strong and solid track, and one that also builds well to a chorus to match, while there is the more up-tempo pace of the excellent first-single Hunter, complete with a strong and memorable chorus, the track itself, along with largely its highly impressive video combined to brake the ice for the band. There is the equally excellent, and least not up-tempo pace of Solitary Star which builds itself into another strong chorus of note, while the dense mid-paced rhythms add a dept to Not In Control which somewhat rolls along nicely. Further to this, there are a number of excellent tracks that continue to feature a strong, solid and more mid-paced edge that build well to their chorus, from the likes of Queen Of The Dancefloor to Poisoned Love, Dark Pleasures & Second Skin which also features some simple Pet Shop Boys style synth stabs. Finally, there is the mid-paced Logan’s Run inspired Did You Find Sanctuary with it’s somewhat darker, and heavier overtones with additional guitar making it also sound somewhat out of place. This is clearly a very-impressive debut-album, and one that for now has more than delivered the promise and potential that this duo clearly hold. © DK
