Right I don’t know where to start. This is more a collection of aural experiences – I certainly wouldn’t call them songs in the traditional sense. Apparently about 20 years ago this band from Sweden laid down a series of tracks, forgot about them then recently went back and added more layers. Rather than individual songs I see this album as series of sounds that should be treated as a whole entity – like chapters making up a book.
Words that come to mind are experimental, abstract, industrial & noise music. There are abrasive, jarring electronics, distorted drones, incomprehensible words, and mournful howls. Mix all this in with the more constant static/white noise and it’s like listening to alien responses on a radio frequency beamed into space, or the aftermath of an alien invasion on an asylum on Mars. It would make the perfect soundtrack to a Sci-Fi/Horror film.
It’s certainly not easy listening and I can’t honestly say I liked any of the “songs”. The most interesting one for me was “End.” It has more of a rhythm and starts and finishes with what sounds like a flat-lining heart monitor with a crazy train ride in between.
I’m not going to give stars on this one - just say you will either love it or hate it.
