The Kraftwerk-like rigid mid-paced rhythm with that wonderful sharp lead analogue synth of Commuters is the second digital-single to be released from the debut-album A Deceptive Calm from this French-duo after the release of (In Your) Neutral Eyes, the single itself features four-tracks, including two-remixes of Commuters along with a Buzz remix of SX Girls, and a new-version of Between Glass And Rewards with both tracks taken from the afore mentioned album. The first of the remixes comes from the cult Belgian Industrial-act Signal Aout 42 who during a six-minute plus remix somewhat expectantly add a steady mid-paced EBM rhythm with a harsh coarse feel that for me somewhat smothers the actual song itself, while also adding something of a distant feel to the vocals on a disappointing remix that largely strips away much of the original track, while it seems somewhat ironic for an act called Commuter to remix a single called Commuters, and so here we have a remix with faint echoes of the late-eighties English Dance scene in a stripped down minimalist version with repetitive rhythms and scant vocals, unfortunately, it’s another disappointing remix. Aside from this, all is not lost as fellow French-act Buzz contribute a largely excellent remix of SX Girls with it’s simplistic mid-paced minimal Electronics, while the excellent new-version of Between Glass And Rewards adds a clean, sharpe feel to the more simplistic and atmospheric edge of the original on a single that for me is somewhat hit and miss, and disappointingly so. © DK
