Fed up with all the crappy happy-happy-Christmas album popping up countlessly these days? Here’s something to escape the jolly terror: Wolventrix. After a successful release of their second single “Wanderlust” Wolventrix follow up with their first longplayer “Ours til dawn”. The band are singer and frontman Tom Walkden, Alex Billig (backing vocals and piano), Tristan Gilchrist (drums), Tony Creaton (bass guitar) and Chris Potter (lead guitar). These London guys met while studying in Oxford. They perfectly match the indie-rock-clicheé - in its very best way. Influences of Bob Dylan, Radiohead or Suede are transferred to their own melodic verve and instrumental inventiveness.

“Ours til dawn” capitivates with its quite minimalistic structure, but still achieving an incredible power. Each and every songs lives especially of the vulnerable, wonderful winy voice of Tom with his lovable British accent. Well-chosen highlights in the 11 titels on top of a slowy increasing tense complete the overwhelming impression. An impact of melancolic sentiment is settling and stirring at the same time. It touches your souls, moves your feet and comfort you. Immense choruses captures immediately, keeps you wanting more and more. The songs are carved from light or are inspired by the dark side of hope and dreams, dragging you in to their deep, deep core.

The opener “Christmas Reveleations” couldn’t fit better in this season by setting just the right mood. Continuing the journey “Electrical storm” is filled with a huge portion of weltschmerz, reflecting thunders in life. On the other hand there’s also a different side: Next to “Wanderlust” that only partly reached its aim of being upbeat and frivolous, “Sham White Wedding” forfills these criterias for sure. A cheery, joyful party song - inviting you to join in and celebrate a glorious day. Another outstanding song is “Sylvie” as it breaks crackling into the air. Faint and gently it is taking up the spirit and adds an interesting, experimental note. It’s an epic closer aswell.

Overall: This album is very British, wonderful melancolic and will totally rock your world.
Don’t miss it!
